A group of British farmers and contractors from East Anglia, the South East and Shropshire visited two of Pöttingers factories during December. The group also included local dealer and Pöttinger UK staff first visited the most northerly of Pöttinger factories, Bernburg in North East Germany.
Pöttinger invested in and purchased the facility during 2001 from its previous private owners whom had run the factory throughout the 1990’s. Today the site houses a state of the art modern manufacturing facility that produces the complete Pöttinger seed drill range from 2.5 Mtr up to 9 Mtr wide. Recent investments seen by the visiting British group included the onsite powder coat paint facility ensuring all Pöttinger products get the best paint finish. The group was also shown the latest technology in bonding hopper lids together allowing a reduction in overall weight of the item but maintaining structural integrity. Annual output of the Pöttinger Bernburg factory is around 2,000 seed drills a year with products being shipped all over the world from this plant. Journeying south down through Germany into adjoining Austria the group also visited the home of Pöttinger at Grieskirchen. This factory is very much the centre of the company’s business housing not only manufacturing but it acts as the HQ for the service, parts and sales divisions of the company. It was here in Grieskirchen town that in 1871 Franz Pöttinger founded the company that today is one of the leading manufacturers of agricultural machinery exporting to more than 50 countries worldwide. At the Grieskirchen factory Pöttinger produces its complete range of grass harvesting equipment, and its plough range. Visitors were able to tour the production are and see the manufacturing of these products for themselves. Pöttinger prides itself on the fact that it produces many of the required components in house allowing them to ensure a supply of quality components as required. This can be seen from the large amounts of steel arriving into one end of the factory with a steady stream of finished machines leaving the other end. From here the machines are transported the short distance to the loading area where up to 5 lorries can be loaded at any one time, along with many machines being dispatched by rail from the companies own railway sidings. The trip was concluded with an enjoyable dinner in the historic city of Salzburg where the group were able to savour a little bit of Austria’s culture and history. |
